Team Balance

If we're going to be working with Airsoft guns (which would work very well for an old-west theme), I think offense and defense should be equal in size. Defense needs to be set up with a strong defensive position with lots of cover and visibility. That should help prevent zerging. Also, the Treasure should be locked up in a large chest filled with rocks. The key is somewhere in the woods.

btw, I love the Golden Disks of the Mormons idea. We need to include the magic hat and the seeing stones as well. Mormons vs. Injuns. I certainly can't think of anything more fun.

I was thinking that the key to the treasure chest could have been taken by the "Leader" of the Defense, who is now a zombie or something in the forest, played by a Wanderer. He could only show up at night and only be vulnerable to headshots. Maybe some buddies with him, too. So if you want the key, you have to learn his location and attack it after sundown. Whatever it is that killed him is still lurking out there somewhere, too.

Oh, and it is possible for the Offense to take the Treasure without the key. They just need to figure out how to transport the big heavy chest. We'll need a big, clumsy wagon, and make it look like a mule.

Possible Minor treasures:
Spirit Healing: Return this token to Camp and some of your warriors will be returned to life.
Spirit Warriors: Grants you several Wanderers to fight for your side. Maybe for a limited time.
Food: I'd been thinking everyone gets a can of Franks n' Beans. This gives them something better. Perhaps instead of stashing food, we can stash food vouchers to turn in at camp.
Ammo: Big caches of it. Better ammo. Airsoft pellets come in several weights. The light ones are less accurate.
Better weapons: Believe me, if everyone is running around with the little peashooters, the one guy with an MP5 is a happy happy man. I've been thus far unable to find replicas of Colt Peacemakers or anything like that, so we'll just have to pretend the MP5 is an old-timey rifle.

Ok, I feel a lot of what you are saying here. But I have always imagined this as a stealth game as it was inspired by the LOTR movies. I'm not quite ready to give that up. I think if the teams are equal you just meet somewhere around the middle and have a battle. That definitely ain't the game I was thinking of. That's just paint ball fightin'. Which can be fun but doesn't really fit the goal in my mind.

I don't think that teams would necessarily go out in a group to fight. Well, I suppose we would need to set it up so that doing so would be foolish. The Defense needs to be drawn out of the Fortress for supplies, but they can't send everyone out for fear of being overrun. The Offense has to be cautious about assaulting the Fortress, because defensive positioning counts for a lot in an airsoft fight. I think one of the keys will be making the Offense split up into two or three groups. If they move as one group, they will be overconfident, as any Defense groups will be outnumbered. If we can set it up properly, the Offense groups and Defense scout teams will be of equal size, and then stealth makes a difference. After all, for the first part of the game, it should be about attaining objectives rather than combat. Perhaps allowing an automatic "ressurection" every so often so that taking out your opponents merely slows them down. But if you get tagged, you suffer the same fate. And trust me, the Defense does NOT want to be stuck at the end of the game, facing a large assault, armed only with pistols and limited ammo.

So maybe none of that made any sense, but yeah, I think of it as a stealth game as well. I just think airsoft would require more balanced teams. Trying to make an attack at the end of the game, outnumbered 2-1 would SUUUCCCKKKK!

So why are we doing Airsoft? Are they biodegradable? How do we know if someone has been tagged? Honor system, eh I don't trust it.

No offense meant Conor but it seems much harder to construct an elaborate plan to keep the teams split into small groups than to just make smaller, unevenly matched groups in the first place. One thing I have noticed about elaborate plans is that no matter how careful you are, one guy can pretty much completely fuck it. Remember all those carefully planned campaigns and then Luc shot the mayor in the head?

Yeah it would suck and you would be an idiot to do it. Unmatched teams take strategy and reconnaissance.
